Title: The Sims 4
Post by: Jase~ on September 04, 2017, 02:41:11 PM
Hi Everyone...
As suggested by LadyM, I've started this thread to discuss The Sims 4 and all of it's DLC; which consists of Patches, EPs, GPs, and SPs. Each post will focus on a specific pack with a generalized description of new gameplay, touch briefly on clothing and objects, any new lots and/or world, along with a few screenshots and my direct thoughts about that pack.

Please note that this thread is a Work In Progress and may take some time before it's finished.

I hope that you enjoy!  :default_biggrin:

The Sims 4 is the latest incarnation of a long running simulation game series that has allowed fans to create and control simulated people and worlds. When compared to it's predecessors though, this game seemed to be met with an uproar from fans due to feeling incomplete due to the amount of missing in game content when released.

In response to the community, since it's release Maxis has added the majority of the missing content through free game patches. Some of the more notable content has been items such as ghosts, pools, careers, family trees, basements, half walls, NPCs, toddlers, and more...

-------------------------------------
3.0 out of Stars (At Release)
4.5 out of 5 Stars (After Patches)
-------------------------------------

Overall, I've really enjoyed playing The Sims 4 since it's original release. While the game did feature some new content for a Sims game, the lack of missing content was very noticeable and it did feel a bit incomplete.  However, after the numerous patches things have become much, much better and I've grown to love the game even more!

The main reason that I didn't give it a full 5 star rating is due to the shortage of some basic NPCs like burglars, police officers, and firefighters still; along with the lack simple objects such as lounge chairs and trash compactors. Plus, I really would like to see body hair and facial piercings added back to CAS.

I also understand that it's not a game that will be enjoyed by all simmers. Especially with the loading screens due to the lack of an open world environment and CAW (Create-A-World) Tool.  If those things aren't necessarily deal-breakers for you, I would suggest to give it a chance. You might just like it too!  :default_biggrin:

Outdoor Retreat is the first game pack for The Sims 4 and includes a new destination, many new objects, new outfits and new interactions. This pack's main focus is more on camping and very similar to vacationing in Three Lakes like The Sims 2 Bon Voyage EP.

3.5 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

This GP is a pretty good buy for the price and really feels like a mini expansion pack to me. It's more than a stuff pack that's for sure and if you enjoy camping and the outdoors, then I'm pretty sure that you and your sims will like what Outdoor Retreat has to offer your game.

Due to small size of Granite Falls and limited camping gameplay, your sims can explore everything it has to offer fairly quickly and the sole reason that I gave it 3.5 stars only.

Get to Work is the first expansion pack for The Sims 4 and includes three new careers; Detective, Doctor and Scientist. This EP also allows sims to own and manage their own retail businesses; as well adding the Alien life state. The three new careers are very different than previous careers as they're active careers and allow players the opportunity to follow sims to work and given tasks that are needed to be completed to get promoted; which is the main focus of the expansion.

This EP includes some of the following new content:

Get To Work also brings back playable aliens; which look and act pretty similar to the ones in previous games, but they glow when feeling strong emotions.  Aliens can either be discovered by playing the game or created in CAS with their own unique set of alien face presets, eyes, make-up and blue, purple and green skintones.

--------------------
5 out of 5 stars
--------------------

I really like the Get To Work EP and feel it was a good choice to be the first expansion for The Sims 4. Even though the main focus of this EP is the active careers, it still does add a lot to the game with the addition of new clothing, hairstyles, objects, and the alien life state.  I'm a huge fan of aliens and that was the main selling point for me; which is also why that I had to give this EP a full 5 star rating!

Luxury Party Stuff is the first stuff pack for The Sims 4 with the main purpose to introduce new clothing, hairstyles, and objects themed towards parties, but does not actually expand on parties themselves.

--------------------
2 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

While I prefer the way Stuff Packs are being handled with The Sims 4 than compared to previous games when it comes to new gameplay objects and price point, I'm not a huge fan of this particular pack.  There was already a lot of party items in the base game and I would've preferred to see something different for our first Stuff Pack for The Sims 4.  The new gameplay objects are nice, but not really a Must Have in game.

Perfect Patio Stuff is the second stuff pack for The Sims 4 with the main purpose to add hot tubs and introduce new clothing, hairstyles, and objects themed towards outdoor gatherings and parties.

--------------------
4 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

Not the best Stuff Pack that's available, but a big improvement on the last one. The new clothing and furniture are very nice and work well with most modern lot designs, but the real selling point with this pack is the hot tubs; which certainly deliver. They have some nice new interactions that we haven't seen in previous game's hot tubs and the new woohoo animation is pretty sweet!

Spa Day is the second game pack for The Sims 4 and includes a new Spa venue type, new Wellness skill, and many spa-themed new objects, outfits and new interactions.

--------------------
4 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

Just like the previous Game Pack, this one also is a great buy and still feels like a mini Expansion Pack. The objects and clothing are made well and there's a lot a replay with this one. My only complaint is that we didn't get another world with this pack. Because real estate is scarce in The Sims 4 and it's hard to fit everything that I would like into each world; which is the sole reason I gave this 4 stars.

Cool Kitchen Stuff is the third stuff pack for The Sims 4 and adds new appliances, cabinets and furnishings, hairstyles, clothing, and meals for sims to prepare and eat.

--------------------
4.5 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

As a builder, this is one of my favorite packs because I love building modern kitchens and I find myself always using a few objects from this Stuff Pack in every kitchen I create.  Plus, the ice cream make objects is pretty nice; however, I just wish the change to a PlantSim wasn't temporary as we really need new life states in The Sims 4.

Spooky Stuff is the fourth stuff pack for The Sims 4 and it's no surprise that it added spooky themed costumes, décor, and furniture.

--------------------
1 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

It shouldn't come as surprise, but this pack is extremely limited in regards to gameplay. It's simple, if you want to have your sims celebrate Halloween, then this is the pack for you... if you don't, then don't get it.  So, far this is probably the least impressive of all Stuff Packs.

Get Together is the 2nd expansion pack for The Sims 4 and includes the new world of Windenburg for sims to hangout and get together while you set the rules, define their looks, and customize their hangouts as part of the new social club feature; which is the main focus of this expansion pack.

This EP includes some of the following new content:

Unlike the previous TS4 expansion pack, Get Together does not include a new sim life state. It's primary focus is on the sims themselves and expanding gameplay by focusing on how sims can hangout, get together, and join uniquely themed social clubs.

--------------------
4 out of 5 stars
--------------------

At first look, I was a bit disappointed with Get Together because I didn't really see the added gameplay through trailers and articles; however, after actually playing the game I can that it's a pretty good addition to the game. The social clubs are pretty fun and something new to my playstyle and just like the previous EP, it also adds a lot of new clothing, hairstyles, and objects. Plus, I'm a huge fan of Windenburg and really feel that the Sims Team did a great job at creating a beautiful sims world. The only thing lacking from this EP is a new life state, for that reason alone is why I ranked Get Together with 4 out of 5 stars.

Movie Hangout Stuff is the fifth stuff pack for The Sims 4 and features a bundle of Bohemian styled objects, a popcorn machine, and two new big-screen TVs in which include 10 unique in-game movies Sims can watch.

--------------------
4.5 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

As a builder, this is another one of my favorite packs because not only does it allow you to expand activities in your sim's backyards but it also allows us to build public theaters too. Also Movie Hangout gives our sims more activities for dating and socializing which is great! Plus, the popcorn popper does compliment the ice cream maker object pretty nicely in regards to style and filling out a sim kitchen.

Romantic Garden Stuff is the sixth stuff pack for The Sims 4 and includes a luscious variety of floras and plants as well as furniture with vines growing up them.

--------------------
3 out of 5 Stars

I've never been good at landscaping a sim's garden or backyard. So, this pack does little for me in that regards, but the additional club activity, fountain, and wishing well add enough gameplay that make this SP worth picking up still.

Dine Out is the third game pack for The Sims 4 and reintroduces the ability to dine at and own restaurants to the game series in a very similar way like The Sims 2 Nightlife EP.

--------------------
4 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

This GP is a great buy for the price and really feels like a mini expansion pack to me. It's much more than a stuff pack that's for sure and really adds to the gameplay. Much like the Get Together EP, Dine Out gives our sims much more activities for dating and general socializing. Due to the lack of a new world and fairly limited lot space, that's the sole reason that I didn't give it 5 stars.

Kids Room Stuff is the seventh stuff pack for The Sims 4 and centers around the child life stage and the activities children can do and clothes they can wear.

--------------------
5 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

As a legacy player, this SP was needed as the child life state is pretty limited in regards to activities, clothing, and furniture. So, Kids Room Stuff really provides options and allows for much more variety and allows players to make sims kids that are much more unique. I highly recommend this pack to anyone who loves to play families in TS4.

Backyard Stuff is the eighth stuff pack for The Sims 4 and allows players to personal sims' backyard while adding various outdoor activities.

--------------------
3.5 out of 5 Stars

Except for the new gameplay objects, there's not too much that Backyard Stuff adds that isn't already in the game. However, with that being said, I really like the style of the new clothing and furniture and find myself using them often. So, there really is some value in this stuff pack. So, I still reccomend picking it up, but wouldn't consider it a necesity for TS4 gameplay.

City Living is the 3rd expansion pack for The Sims 4 and reintroduces apartments and penthouses to the game series. It also allows sims to live in and explore a new city world called San Myshuno and feels very similar to both The Sims 2 Apartment Life EP and The Sims 3 Late Night EP.

This EP includes some of the following new content:

Unlike the previous TS4 Get Together expansion pack which focused on the sims, it feels like City Living focuses much more on San Myshuno and it's 4 distinct areas; Spice Market, Arts Quarter, Fashion District, and Uptown. This densely populated city has plenty for sims to explore, from the new Karaoke Bar venue to the various themed festivals, to the huge Myshuno Meadows park!

--------------------
4 out of 5 stars
--------------------

City Living is an awesome expansion pack and really adds a great variety of clothing, hairstyles, decor, furniture, and much more. The city alone gives sims lots of new activities and places to explore either on dates, socializing, or with their club. My only complaint about this expansion is that apartments and penthouses are exclusive to San Myhuno and cannot be built from scratch in other worlds, that's the sole reason I didn't give this EP a 5 star rating.

Vintage Glamour Stuff is the 9th stuff pack for The Sims 4 and allows players to dress their sims in luxurious vintage clothing, adorn their home with high-end vintage furnishings, and even hire a butler.

2.5 out of 5 Stars

While I'm not really a fan of the vintage style, I do like the new gameplay objects and the Butler NPC is pretty cool. This is one of the SPs that I feel isn't vital to gameplay, but does have some great things to offer. So, unless you're a fan of the vintage glamour theme or must have a Butler, I would wait for this one to go on sale before purchasing.

Vampires is the 4th game pack for The Sims 4 and marks the return of the vampire life state and adds the residential world Forgotten Hollow.

The Vampires GP allows players to transform sims into powerful vampires and live for an eternity in the eerie new world of Forgotten Hollow. It also lets you create a variety of vampires using all-new tools and unlock unique powers that give sims supernatural abilities.

--------------------
5 out of 5 Stars
--------------------

In my opinion this is hands down the best sims interpretation of vampires to date. You can create any type of vampire you wish; from an old-world traditional vampire to a modern-day punk vamp. Plus, vampires can now have a "Dark Side" as well. If you're a fan of the supernatural or just vampires in general, the Vampires GP is a definite must for you and your sims!

Bowling Stuff is the 10th stuff pack for The Sims 4 and brings bowling back to the game series. Build and customize a Bowling Alley, take your sims to the lanes to compete against friends and improve their bowling skills to unlock trick shots.

This pack isn't nearly as versatile as other SPs and if you're not a fan of bowling, there really isn't a need to pick this one up unless you have your eye on a specific hairstyle, piece of clothing, or object or two. But, I like bowling and enjoy that sims have another activity during dates or socializing.

Parenthood is the 5th game pack for The Sims 4 and allows players to have sims develop their parenting skill to help shape their children's lives into adulthood. Choose when to discipline or encourage sim child behaviors, teach life values, and leave a lasting impact on their future. This addition to the game series is a very similar concept to The Sims 3 Generations EP.

As a legacy player, it's no surprise that this GP is handsdown my favorite additiona to TS4 yet. It adds so much to the game in terms of nothing clothing, hairstyles, and objects, but with actual game play. From sims developing their own Parenting Skill to using to mold their sim child's own behavior ontop of their own inherited traits. Plus, with a combination of phases and mood swings, this GP reallys adds so much to the game and is definitely a must for anyone who loves playing families and/or legacies.

Hi LadyM,

Sorry about the hiatus to this thread; however, I was finally able to get all of the posts on the first page completed. Hopefully, I'll have time this weekend to work on page two. Plus, start new posts with details about the Laundry SP and the new Jungle Adventure GP coming at the end of Feburary! :)

Glad to hear that you're playing TS4 again. It's really come a long way since it's release!

Oh good!  If you use Wicked Whims, and the Master controller, they have all updated!  I haven't updated them yet because I'm still in Fallout but I have been thinking of checking back into my Sims game soon.  I have also got to get my Sims 2 squared around so I can get my homes uploaded here!  Thank you for stopping back by, Jase, I really appreciate it!

You're very welcome! :)
I really need to get to the HoT more, but it just doesn't seem like there's enough time in the day to do everything that I want to do! LOL

While I haven't played with the Master Controller at all, I've dabbled with Wicked Whims before and it's pretty nice. I've been playing TS4 a bit, but now that I've also got an Xbox One S, I've also tried playing Mass Effect Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition (which I'm horrible at both). LOL

If you haven't checked out details on the new TS4 Jungle Adventure GP, I would recommend it though. It looks really nice and almost like their version of TS3 World Adventures. It event has a Haunted Skeleton NPC. :)
